Does l-arginine have any side effects?

There really isn’t a simple way to answer this question. There are a ton of different variables that come into play that no article alone can answer. Your body type, how much arginine you are take, your diet, the brand of your arginine you’re using, etc, all come into play.  Here is a general overview of some of the most common side effects of arginine.

Dehydration: Taking too much arginine can cause your body to be overworked and cause you to be thirsty and dehydrated. Be sure to stay hydrated for optimal performance.

Headache: Increasing the amount of nitric oxide in the body may cause some headaches. This can be caused by the increased blood flow, vasodilation, and increased oxygen and nutrient flow.

Nausea: Some athletes may suffer from nausea.

Diarrhea: If you take more than 10 grams of arginine at once your body will have a difficult time digesting this causing diarrhea and other gastrointestinal issues. Avoid this by following proper dosage directions.

Dizziness: Some athletes may feel dizzy because of the increased blood flow.

Upset stomach: Depending on how your body reacts to arginine, you may feel the onset of an upset stomach. It does happen, not everyone is cut out to be able to handle or take every supplement out there.

Low blood pressure: L-arginine might lower blood pressure.
